Realtors Build “Baskets of Hope” for Veterans

July 18, 2018 – Dayton Realtors were in Centerville on July 18 to lend their support to veterans in the Dayton area. Realtors from all around the Miami Valley assisted the Blue Star Mothers, Miami Valley Chapter #3, to prepare “Baskets of Hope”, a program designed to assist veterans from the Dayton VA Center who have completed a program and are ready to find or be placed in their own home. Laundry baskets were packed full of home essentials to help veterans get started in their new surroundings. It’s just one of the ways Realtors give back to the Dayton community.

“Community service is a core value of Realtors,” stated Bob Morrison, president of Dayton Realtors. “Realtors have been working across this country for more than 100 years to build communities and advocate for private property rights, and none of that would be possible without the brave men and women who defend our freedom. We are honored to partner with the Blue Star Mothers.”

The Blue Star Mothers, Miami Valley Chapter #3 is a non-profit organization that provides support for active duty military, promotes patriotism, and assists our veterans. They have mailed over 15,000 care packages to troops all over the world in their thirteen years of operation.

Tammy Murphy, past-president of BSM Miami Valley Ch. #3 and a Realtor stated: “I am thrilled to share the opportunity to match two great organizations together. We feel the pride in our communities we serve, and being able to represent our own military community in such a way by preparing care packages full of home staples provides yet another level to our outreach.”

As members of the community, Realtors take part in a number of community initiatives throughout the year, from volunteering with Rebuilding Together to rehab homes, to donating money and materials to Dayton area schools and credit counseling services. The Dayton Realtors Foundation provides scholarships to dependents of Realtors, and their annual holiday reception serves as Dayton’s largest source of donated toys to the Marine Corp’s Toys for Tots.
